Cleaning reptile terrariums

One of the most common questions I get at reptile expos is what product to use when a terrarium is due for a clean.

There are quite a few great products out there that will do the job. We have tried all of them but our favourite one is surprisingly made from an item that is found in most people’s homes.

Right! It’s plain basic vinegar. It is completely reptile safe and I even use it for amphibians. I just make sure the vinegar is completely dry and gone from the glass before I put my frogs back in their home.

I don’t measure the vinegar/water mix to an exact science. I just add the vinegar until the spray bottle is about 1/4 full and fill it up the rest of the way with water.

Some people have told me that they don’t like the smell but I find that when the vinegar dries, the smell goes away.

One 2.5 L bottle will last you quite a long time. Happy cleaning!
